Helping others

Teaching, coaching or caring for others

Greg Holdaway guiding a teacher who is working with another person, in a group class

The BodyMinded work provides guidance, knowledge, skills for working with others. Assisting teachers and helpers with skills based on Alexander technique, using bodymapping, communication and clinical skills for professional development is a big part of what we do.

We work with music or movement teachers, bodyworkers and others. We can help you find fresh ways to help your students while looking after yourself as you do it.

At a deeper level you can train to become an Alexander teacher or develop your existing teaching skills.

What the work is

BodyMinded offers talks and workshops along with professional development online courses in movement anatomy. Greg’s background in exercise and sports science informs how the principles are taught, alongside Alexander’s own.

The ideas behind it

For a glimpse of our approach, BodyMinded teaching is organised around the BodyMinded Triangle: whole-person coordination; conscious cooperation with how our design and the world work; and the Yes Plan, a constructive plan for action.

The BodyMinded Triangle: Coordination at the top, Conscious Cooperation with how things work at bottom left, and the Yes Plan, a constructive action plan, at bottom right

Six principles guide whole-self coordination:

  • Head and whole body
  • Moveability
  • Support goes up
  • Forward organisation
  • Self-organising
  • In the world

Together they are a practical, teachable form of what Alexander called the primary control.
