PAIN-FREE, JOYFUL PRACTICE AND TEACHING

Singing and playing music is a personally rewarding and transformative joy. It can also be physically and mentally challenging to learn and to teach. BodyMinded training will help you and your students move into a new world of sensory freedom and skill, beyond stress and difficulty. It will develop your professional teaching capacity, give you new ideas and resources for playing and teaching Music while helping you to address the whole person — as learner and performer. BodyMinded is founded on Alexander Technique principles and provides systematic anatomical knowledge, with a deliberately constructive approach to problem solving and instruction.

TRAINING BENEFITS

BodyMinded training benefits the performer, the music director, conductor and teacher. The program teaches the practical application of anatomical and biomechanical knowledge to performing and teaching. Your knowledge of how things work will be informed by up-to-date scientific information and insight in the areas of body-mapping, action, including the use of the vocal mechanisms, and constructive thinking. Along the way the program addresses habits of coordination, how to develop an improving skill and re-wire neurological pathways that have become established over time. The teaching/coaching aspects include the development of three stage instructions that ensure you address the whole-person along with the specific desires and needs of the moment. Practical instruction is supported with comprehensive course notes, textbook and flexible online learning where needed.

“Being aware of my head and whole body in playing the piano – not just my arms and fingers – has opened up my expression, freedom and enjoyment. I look forward to playing now because I know it won’t hurt and I can lose myself in the music. Getting students aware of their own bodies and their structure has been fascinating – just that awareness alone seems to build their confidence and therefore, their enjoyment and exploration of themselves at the piano. This is the magic of Bodyminded!”
